A long way back for the Tote

A lot has been written recently about the dividends paid out on the tote, highlighted in particular by a few incidents of freak payouts( one to the benefit) but mostly to the detriment of the betting public. Little Sidekick has over 40 years of punting experience and can remember the days when the tote was one of only two ways to bet at the greyhound track or the racecourse. The advent of exchange betting has taken a tremendous amount of revenue from the pockets of the traditional bookmakers. They in turn have looked at ways of maximising revenue by enhancing their internet gambling facilities to sophisticated levels. All of which was bad news for a tote that has had little option but to increase its pool take out to try and bolster its own revenue. The subsequent purchase of the Tote by an independent bookmaker, despite encouraging noises, did little to improve the tote’s and more importantly the punters returns when  a further increase in the tote take-out was immediately announced . Now it is clear that the punter has a choice at the racecourse, and it is also true that the rails bookmaker cannot offer the variety of bets that the tote can. These are particularly appealing to the smaller or infrequent racecourse visitor. What is annoying in the extreme, (and I have yet to hear a valid excuse that the practice is not a deliberate one) is the difference in the show of potential returns available on tote screens literally seconds before the off, and the actual payout. Little Sidekick has been the victim of this phenomenon too many times to mention-(once cheering home a 16-1 winner at Towcester only to receive a meagre 8-1 on his Tote ticket) .Recent letters in the Racing Post have echoed this sentiment. The point is that these shows attract a punter to bet on the Tote-if he can get a few points extra then the Tote will have his money rather than the rail bookmakers-common sense.

It is of course naive to expect the dividend finally declared by the Tote  matches that advertised on their screens before the off, but surely it has to be close to it and at least reflect the SP ?

Several times bitten, once shy-

Many punters as well as Little Sidekick himself now avoid the Tote as we just cannot trust it to give us value. Until this issue is addressed -in whatever way they see fit- the Tote will continue to lose punters and attract further criticism.

Salisbury Races Betting Tips – Dare you to face the Truth

‘Truth or Dare’ in the 14.50 Salisbury is today’s nap-in what is another tricky 2 year old race it pays to stick with the tried and trusted Hughes/Hannon combination-while there are obvious dangers in the race the overall profile of our selection is one of an improving horse and that’s the truth !!

Windsor Races Betting Tips – Recovery mission on Queenie

After yesterday’s huge disappointment with Bostonian giving the race away, (having run away from the odds-on favourite -he drifted badly across the course in the last furlong and was caught on the line)-

‘Jubilant Queen’   15.10 Windsor  NAP- should make no such mistakes-in a rich vein of form and with the benefit of Richard Hughes on board  she should be too strong for her opposition.

Come on Queenie !!!!!

All the B’s at Newmarket today

With Ascot hosting the brilliant but unpredictable Shergar Cup meeting today, our focus has to be on Newmarket for sensible investments. The format of the Shergar cup makes for a great day out with a host of top international jockeys on show but a combination of never having ridden their mounts previously and for some, never having ridden in the UK, can make the form book an irrelevance.

The Hannon and Hughes combination is always to be respected when sending out improving 2 year olds and in ‘Baby Bush’ 15.35 Newmarket they might just have another. The race includes some other sharp prospects and ‘Baby Bush’ may well start at attractive odds-5pts E/W

‘Bostonian’ looks a good thing in the 16.45 also at Newmarket and although not expected to be as generously priced as our previous selection, could provide a valuable banker for multiple bets. -5pts Win

Double them up in a 1pt E/W double.

Little Sidekick

Speedball worth another chance!

Little Sidekick likes the chances of La Fortunata in the 19.25 at Newmarket on Friday the 19th.

The small but game mare was just caught in the last stride carrying a huge weight at Epsom recently-7lb claimer has been booked to ride at Newmarket and although wrong at the weights she goes to the race in great heart and I expect her to blast from the stalls  and make all.

She stays 6f so the stiff uphill finish on the 5f July course will suit her. She should be 4-1 or thereabouts and a small insurance bet would be a straight forecast with her second to the field.

Ascot Gold Cup Odds 2013 – Further Information

The Gold Cup really is the major race of the entire five day Royal Ascot in a lot of people’s eyes and always attracts the most bets. With the Gold Cup being one of the longest races of the Flat season, it’s always a great spectacle and a real test of staying power. Super horse Yeats won the race an amazing four times in succession from 2006 through 2009.

Will another long term champion emerge? The Gold Cup (the race does not officially include the word “Ascot”) is now the first leg of the Stayers’ Triple Crown, which is followed by the Goodwood and Doncaster Cups. Above are last year’s results, all of which as you can see came in with very decent odds returns. The Ascot Gold Cup Odds 2013 horses above could also surprise.

This Ascot Gold Cup Odds 2013 analysis as part of the Royal Ascot Betting Odds review ends here – good luck with your Gold Cup selections for Thursday’s highlight race.

King’s Stand Stakes Tips 2013

Tuesday 18th June – King’s Stand Stakes Tips 2013

The second Group 1 feature race of Royal Ascot is part of an exciting first day and here we present our free King’s Stand Stakes Tips 2013. The race is for three-year-olds and over, is run over a distance of five furlongs. Race date and time: Tuesday, June 18th at 15:05.

King’s Stand Stakes Tips 2013: Dependable Bets

Shea Shea and Shamexpress have well-deserved short priced odds for this one, and Reckless Abandon should get a placing at least. We reckon Sole Power, Shea Shea and Shamexpress will all give way to these three in a tight contest, which would make for good returns. Our dependable bet predictions for King’s Stand Stakes Tips 2013 are:

1- Kingsgate Native Best odds at: BetVictor
2- Swiss Spirit Best odds at: Bet365
3- Reckless Abandon Best odds at: William Hill

King’s Stand Stakes Tips 2013: Better Odds

These three are not out of the running by any stretch of the imagination. You could justifiably add Spirit Quartz and 2011 winner Prohibit to this group, but we favour this trio of horses who could easily upset the odds for the 2013 King’s Stand Stakes.  Worth a few quid on for a place at least, particularly Medicean Man at big odds:

1- Pearl Secret Best odds at: Bet365
2- Mince Best odds at: BetVictor
3- Medicean Man Best odds at: Bet365

King’s Stand Stakes Tips 2013: Outsiders with a Chance

We think that the likes of Taajub, Stepper Point and Doc Hay are a step too far from having a real shot at the King’s Stand Stakes this year, but these three definitely have some realistic chance of springing a shock, and good to have a bet on if you like to have a wildcard in the pack.  You will get great odds on any of these – for good reason – but stranger things have happened.

1- Ballesteros Best odds at: BetFred
2- Move In Time Best odds at: BetFred
3- York Glory Best odds at: Bet365

King’s Stand Stakes Tips 2013 – Further Information

Held on the opening day of Royal Ascot, the King’s Stand Stakes is a Group One race which dates back to 1860, although the current name didn’t appear until 1901 when King Edward VII ascended the throne.  In 2005, the King’s Stand Stakes became part of the international race series, the Global Sprint Challenge.  It is now the fourth leg of the series, and is followed by the Diamond Jubilee Stakes.

Lester Piggott is the leading jockey for the King’s Stand Stakes with seven wins stretching from 1957 (Right Boy) to 1985 (Never So Bold).

Older horses have done well in this race in recent years, with the only three-year-olds to win since 2000 being Equiano in 2008 and Dominica in 2002.  In 2012, Little Bridge grabbed glory with jockey Zac Purton.  In 2011, 2013 runner Prohibit took the race.  Prohibit features in the King’s Stand Stakes Tips 2013 review above but at the age of 8 it is hard to see the Gelding winning again.

South African runner Shea Shea is leading the southern hemisphere challenge for the title this year, alongside Australia’s  Shamexpress.

This King’s Stand Stakes Tips 2013 as part of the Royal Ascot Betting Odds review concludes here. All the very best of luck with your Tuesday race selections.

Diamond Jubilee Stakes Tips 2013

Saturday 22nd June – Diamond Jubilee Stakes Tips 2013

The final Group 1 Flat race of Royal Ascot is set to complete this great meeting and here are our Diamond Jubilee Stakes Tips 2013.  The race is for thoroughbred three-year-olds and over, is run over a distance of six furlongs and has huge prize money of £450,000. Race date and time: Saturday, June 22nd at 15:45.

Diamond Jubilee Stakes Tips 2013: Dependable Bets

Gordon Lord Byron and Society Rock have well-deserved short priced odds for this one, and Lethal Force has enough to grab a placing at least.   We reckon Sea Siren, Mince and Hawkeyethenoo will all give way to these three in a tight contest.   Our first finishing trio predictions for Diamond Jubilee Stakes Tips 2013 are:

1- Gordon Lord Byron Best odds at: Bet365
2- Society Rock Best odds at: BetFred
3- Lethal Force Best odds at: William Hill

Diamond Jubilee Stakes Tips 2013: Better Odds

These three horses are less fancied but are definitely not out of the running by any means. You could expand this list to include Slade Power and Mince but form is with these thoroughbreds and they return bigger winnings by far:

1- Dandy Boy Best odds at: Bet365
2- Rosdhu Queen Best odds at: BetVictor
3- Krypton Factor Best odds at: Bet365

Diamond Jubilee Stakes Tips 2013: Outsiders with a Chance

Probably best not to back too many like these and we have stopped short of horses like Gammarth and Intense Pink who are tipped to finish at the back of the pack.  However, for risk-takers these are at massive odds and could be worth a small bet on – Particularly Soul.

1- Sirius Prospect Best odds at: William Hill
2- Zanetto Best odds at: BetFred
3- Havelock Best odds at: Bet365

Diamond Jubilee Stakes Tips 2013 – Further Information

Originally known as the All-Aged Stakes back in 1868 when it was first run, this race has been renamed several times.  In 1926 it became known as the Cork and Orrey Stakes before becoming the Golden Jubilee Stakes in 2002 and since 2012 The Diamond Jubilee Stakes.  It forms part of the Global Sprint Challenge, which also includes the King’s Stand Stakes. Remind yourself of the previous year’s race to see if it might influence your thinking on our Diamond Jubilee Stakes Tips 2013:

Ascot Gold Cup Tips 2013

Thursday 20th June – Ascot Gold Cup Tips 2013

The best known Group 1 race of Royal Ascot is upon us and here is our expert panel’s Ascot Gold Cup Tips 2013 analysis. The race is for four-year-olds and over, is run over a distance of two miles, four furlongs and has prize money of £250,000. Race date and time: Thursday, June 20th at 15:45.

Ascot Gold Cup Tips 2013: Dependable Bets

These horses are at short priced odds but for good reason; They are almost certain to feature at the finish line. Rite of Passage is highly fancied but these horses are likely going to be right in the mix at the finish. Over this distance anything can happen and a winner should come from one of these and a place is surely a good bet:

1- Simenon Best odds at: Bet365
2- Estimate Best odds at: BetFred
3- Saddler’s Rock Best odds at: William Hill

Ascot Gold Cup Tips 2013: Better Odds

Bigger odds can be had with a little more of a risky bet and any of these have a great shot at grabbing a place or a surprise win. They would also bring in a healthy return for those willing to put their money on them and in a big field such as this you could include the likes of Top Trip and Number Theory in with these selections but here are the stand-outs:

1- Earl of Tinsdal Best odds at: Bet365
2- El Salvador Best odds at: BetVictor
3- Last Train Best odds at: Bet365

Ascot Gold Cup Tips 2013: Outsiders with a Chance

Very big odds can be had on any of the following horses that could become the surprise package of the 2013 Ascot Gold Cup if they managed to grab a placing. Winning might be considered a complete shock for some of these horses judging by the odds but these few could just manage something special on Thursday at 3:45:

1- Aaim To Prosper Best odds at: William Hill
2- Repeater Best odds at: BetFred
3- Number Theory Best odds at: Bet365

The Queen Anne Stakes Tips 2013

Tuesday 18th June – Queen Anne Stakes Tips 2013

It’s the traditional first Group 1 race of Royal Ascot and here is our expert panel’s Queen Anne Stakes Tips 2013 analysis.  For thoroughbreds aged four and over, the horse race is run over a mile and comes with prize money of £250,000.  Race date and time: Tuesday, June 18th at 14:30.

Queen Anne Stakes Tips 2013:  Dependable Bets

These horses are some of the favourites and are almost certain to feature at the finish. Animal Kingdom is in great form and the Dubai World Cup hero is every bookies’ favourite.  Aljamaaheer is better odds for your money than Elusive Kate but a winning combination could well look like this:

1- Animal Kingdom Best odds at: Bet365
2- Elusive Kate Best odds at: BetFred
3- Declaration of War Best odds at: Skybet

Queen Anne Stakes Tips 2013:  Better Odds

A maximum of 14 horses will be running against Animal Kingdom in the Queen Anne Stakes 2013 Looking at the horses who could easily do well despite their odds, bets on any one of the following would give a pretty decent return in this year’s event:

1- Trade Storm Best odds at: Bet365
2- Sovereign Debt Best odds at: BetVictor
3- Gregorian Best odds at: BetVictor

Queen Anne Stakes Tips 2013:  Outsiders with a Chance

Everyone loves it when a few quid on an outsider pays off and great odds can be had on any of the following that could well surprise with a place.  While Windsor Palace has such big odds, it’s unlikely to feature, these horses have got enough to spring a Queen Anne Stakes shock:

1- Gabrial Best odds at: William Hill
2- Penitent Best odds at: BetFred
3- Chil the Kite Best odds at: Bet365

Queen Anne Stakes Tips 2013 Information

Frankie Dettori has ridden a lot of winners in this race during his career (six times in all), a fact well worth bearing this in mind for Tuesday’s race this year should he be taking part.  He could do with some good publicity given his recent drugs ban and this would be just the way to bounce back.  Everyone likes a good news story.

The lead up to Royal Ascot 2013

On the eighteenth of June 2013, the most popular and prestigious flat-horse racing event in the United Kingdom gets underway yet again, and the excitement is building fast.  This event is in its 302nd year now after being initiated by Queen Anne, and features prominently on every dedicated racing enthusiast’s racing and social calendar.

The week’s card is inclusive of at least one feature race on each day.  Day 1 sees three prestigious Group 1 races alone – it gets off to a cracker. The highlight of the week is almost certainly the Gold Cup, run on the Thursday. It’s the longest Group 1 race in Britain and is contested by the very best in the business, previously won by Frankie Dettori on Colour Vision.

The nations’ greatest flat-racing horses and jockeys will be there in force, alongside an array of international superstars.  The setting is the immaculate green grass of Ascot, with The Queen watching,  with a standard of the absolute highest quality on show. It truly is a magnificent spectacle.

The meeting’s prize money justifies this, with over £5 million up for the taking by the contestants. Saturday draws to a close with the Diamond Jubilee Stakes and this will also be fiercely-contested as it’s the event’s most valuable race; with £500,000 in prize winnings.

Some Epsom Derby Facts

Just as with other great racing events, like the Grand National, bookmakers on course will be taking bets on their Epsom Derby odds 2013 first thing – which highlights its importance in that day of racing. There are, of course, more support races that take place around the main event which are also very hotly contested.

The Coronation Cup takes place over the same course and distance.  It is, however, a race for four-year-olds and over (compared with the Epsom Derby which is  for three-year-olds).  It is often popular with race-goers as it often features horses from the previous year’s Derby and Oaks who are now too old for them!

One of the biggest other races of the meeting is the Dash, taking place over the fastest 5f in the world. It never fails to get the crowd going just prior to the Derby.

The Epsom Derby was first run in 1780.  It was at a party to celebrate the first running of the Oaks Stakes in 1779 that guests planned a new race.  it was named after the twelfth Earl of Derby, Edward Smith Stanley. Legend has it that a coin toss decided who the race would be named after. Sir Charles Bunbury was the man who lost the coin toss but his horse, Diomed, then went on to win the very first Derby! That was the 4th of May 1780 and he also won prize money of £1,065 15s which must have cheered him up immensely.  The Earl of Derby’s horse Sir Peter Teazle won the race in 1787.

The Epsom Derby attracts a crowd with of 125,000 plus patrons descending on the Downs on Derby Day.

The current distance of 1.5 miles has been in place since 1784, and prior to this the race was a single mile.

The Oaks Stakes is still run, on the Friday, and is known today also as Ladies Day. It is in fact a year older than the better known Derby Stakes and you can expect to see high fashion and a lot of accompanying hats.

On the Saturday, the feature race of the meeting takes place – The Epsom Derby.

Such is the success of The Derby that 140 other countries now hold their own “Derby”. This Epsom Derby Odds 2013 and free bets review ends here. Good luck and may you back the winning horse!

Some Epsom Derby History

First run in 1780, the race is named after the twelfth Earl of Derby, Edward Smith Stanley.  Legend has it that a coin toss decided who the race would be named after.  The man who called “heads” and lost was Sir Charles Bunbury. Today, The Derby attracts a massive crowd with in excess of 125,000 people descending on the Downs on Derby Day every year without fail.

The current distance of 1½ miles has been in place since 1784. Before this the race was 1 mile. The Earl of Derby himself had to wait until 1787 to taste success in the race with a horse called Sir Peter Teazle.

The Oaks Stakes is still run, on the Friday, and is known today also as Ladies Day.  It is in fact a year older than the better known Derby Stakes and you can expect to see high fashion and a lot of accompanying hats.
