OFF TO A FLYER !

The start of Newmarket’s Craven meeting today signifies the beginning of the serious Flat racing season-trainers often use this meeting to test out their classic hopefuls for later on in the season and there are some mouthwateringly expensive horses on view over the course of the meeting. FLYBALL Newmarket 14.20 could see us off to a good start, Just a baby but already with two races under his belt and progressing nicely. His experience should see him win at odds of around 11/4.

Discussion will get us all talking

DISCUSSIONTOFOLLOW  Windsor 4.20 Nap looks a smart horse in the making-progressive on the AW surface and put up 10lbs by the handicapper for an easy neck win last time out-He could still have more to give assuming he handles grass as well as the AW. Get on early-generally available at 7-2 with most bookies.

It may pay to stick with the old boy

Benandonner 5.30 Wolv 2pts Win is now 11 years old and has reached a level at which is he still very competitive-always game and genuine, this old campaigner may well have a few more wins in him before the handicapper gets to grip with his falling mark. Currently on offer at 7-2 with most firms.

A week of near things but still in profit !!

Two big priced outsiders today ensured a profit of £6 to our suggested stakes with Diakali at 25-1 proving the main earner, and Pearlysteps chipping in a small profit. . A week of near things which could have boosted our winnings but an overall profit on our tips of £23.25 to our suggested modest stakes. Cheltenham provides the pinnacle of National Hunt races but with huge fields contesting most of the races and some big surprises,  winners are very difficult to find and to stay in profit for the whole meeting is  a satisfying result.

Count on Conti !

SILVINIACO CONTI  5PTS WIN 15.20 has the class, barring mishaps to take the feature race. CALIPTO 13.30 5PTS WIN can get his head in front in the Triumph with DIAKALI 14.05 5PTS E/W a lively outsider in the County Hurdle. PEARLYSTEPS 16.00 5PTS E/W should make the frame in the Foxhunters at a decent price,

£1 E/W Acc              32 Points Invested

Still Ahead on Day 3

A net profit of £7.35 on the day where big fields dominated. Double Ross, Rajdhani Express and Cause of Causes all made the frame at good prices-Annie Power went down fighting and only If In doubt let us down for a very tasty place accumulator. £17.75 Total Profit after Day 3

IT COULD BE ANNIE’S DAY

The appearance of the unbeaten mare ANNIE POWER  10pts WIN 15.20 provides the highlight of the day. Taking on some male superstars this mare has yet to be extended and today should show her real class.  DOUBLE ROSS 5pts E/W 13.30 should be there or thereabouts in the opener and it always pays to stick with AP Mcoy IF IN DOUBT 14.50 5pts E/W in big handicaps.

Sam Whaley Cohen knows RAJDHANI EXPRESS 14.40 5 pts E/W very well and this supremely talented rider should steer his mount into the frame.

In the last it could pay to stay with CAUSE OF CAUSES 16.40 5pts E/W a classy hurdler who seems to be coming back to form at the right time.

1pt E/W Acc

Total Outlay 52 Points

Champion Chase Day at Cheltenham

The Champion Chase is today’s feature race in what looks like a ferociously competitive card on the second day of the festival meeting at Cheltenham. It may pay to stick with the Walsh/Mullins combination  FAUGHEEN  13.30 –5pts win in the opener.

ANACOTTY 14.04 –5pts E/W shoulders top weight but should have the class to make the frame at a tasty price.  DELL’ARCA 14.40  5pts E/W is an improving sort and could run a big race at decent odds.

In the feature it may pay to take a chance with ARVIKA LEGIONNAIRE  15.20 5PTS E/W -not the most consistent but may be running into form at the right time in what is not the classiest of Champion Chase fields.

Our resident Cheltenham Tipster, Little Sidekick, returned an overall profit of 40 points on day one of Cheltenham.

Perhaps his best tip of the day on Tuesday was Holywell at a huge 10-1 winner in the Baylis and Harding Handicap Chase.  In the third race of the opening day, the outsider wore down Ma Filleule in the run-in to win.  Ma Filleule, bravely ridden by Nico de Boinville, was at 33-1 but Holywell managed to get ahead thanks to the magnificent ride by R P McLernon and clinch it for the second year running.

He also picked the highly fancied Quevega at 16:00 as a sure thing – winner only – and the mare duly claimed a record sixth Mares’ Hurdle.

Stay tuned for more Cheltenham tips.  For a run-down of the best free bet offers for betting on the festival, see our Cheltenham free bet special.

Cheltenham Day 1- A day of mixed emotions-profit and sadness

Leaving aside Quevega, who was touted as a near certainty- Little Sidekick advised a total outlay of 30 points over his 4 tips for a return of 70 points-giving followers a £40 net profit on the first day’s tips. Sadly one of his tips, the classy Our Conor rose very early for a hurdle and took a crashing fall which despite intensive veterinary treatment, proved fatal.

Cheltenham Tips 2014: Big fields need a big pin but there could be a quick return for the bold.

On a day when large numbers of runners dominate every race it may be best to use a big pin and close your eyes but there could be value to be had if you look closely-in the opener 13.30 VALSEAR LIDO could make the frame at a nice price-5pts E/W. Smart on the flat he looks to have the speed to cope with this type of race.

The 14.05 has an old favourite CHAMPAGNE FEVER  5pts Win-seemingly coming into form at the right time. Improving HOLYWELL 14.40 5pts E/W steps up in class but could make the frame and as a handicap this race pays the first four places.

The drying ground could work against the existing champion in the 15.20 and it may pay to stick with OUR CONOR 5PTS Win who may be the best of the younger generation in what is the most open Champion Hurdle for many years.

Fancy buying money ?  A 75% return on your investment in less than 6 minutes ? Then QUEVEGA 16.00  Win only – has to be the choice of the day. Not for the faint hearted, This ultra talented mare is not getting any younger and has not been beaten in many of her races to date. Is there a new superstar to come and take her title ? This is the big question. Set to start at odds-on in a big field, she undoubtedly has the class but do you have the bottle to buy money !!!

Cheltenham Apps Odds & Ends

Cheltenham is fondly known as the jewel in the jump racing crown, with the Cheltenham Festival being an embodiment of everything that is wonderful about it.  Officially known as the National Hunt Meeting, it takes place every March at Cheltenham Racecourse in Gloucestershire..

As far as race meetings are concerned it’s worth noting that the numbers of people laying bets using Cheltenham apps and sites far outweighs the betting on any other racing festival in the UK calendar year. The actual prize money at Cheltenham is second only to the Grand National.

The National Hunt Meeting has been based at Prestbury Park since 1911 after being shared around a bit since the first in 1860 and has taken place there every year since then except for 2001 because of an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.  It’s a four day meeting with at least one Championship race on each and every day.

Some of the grade one events include the Champion Bumper, Triumph Hurdle,  Champion Hurdle, Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and it all climaxes with the Cheltenham Gold Cup (Friday). Cheltenham is more of a local affair compared with other race meets, attracting the best of British and Irish horses and jockeys.  The main group one races over the four days are as follows:

Tuesday (Day One): Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, Arkle Challenge Trophy (Fences), Champion Hurdle

Wednesday (Day Two): Novices’ Hurdle, sponsored Chase (Fences), Queen Mother Champion Chase (Fences), Champion Bumper (National Hunt Flat Race)

Thursday (Day Three): sponsored Chase, World Hurdle

Friday (Day Four): Triumph Hurdle, Spa Novices’ Hurdle, Cheltenham Gold Cup (Fences)

We hope that you enjoyed this, our Cheltenham apps and free bets feature review.  Have a lucky National Hunt Meeting week.

A very good atmosphere helped by the sunny weather. Full marks Epsom !!
